Germany is preparing to formally blame Russia for the attempted drone attack at Leipzig

Germany is preparing to formally blame Russia for the attempted drone attack at Leipzig airport and announce "large-scale" sanctions, Politico reports, citing three German officials.

According to the outlet, Merz's government is preparing these measures alongside a new EU sanctions package, with an announcement expected early next week — though it could come sooner.

One of Politico's sources said that after the Leipzig incident, expelling a handful of Russian diplomats or shutting down the "Russian House" in Berlin is no longer enough. Among the possible measures cited: tougher sanctions and further increases in arms deliveries to Ukraine.
